Tell us about your life before discovering Jetts
Before joining Jetts I weighed 180kg and was incredibly unfit. I didn’t exercise at all, ate poorly and drank excessive amounts of alcohol. I had Type 2 Diabetes and very high bloody pressure. I had been overweight since childhood and I was using food as my escape.
When did you decide to make a change?
Late in 2013 I decided it was time to do something about my incredibly unhealthy lifestyle. I was abusing my body and I knew I would be lucky to make it to my 40th birthday if I kept on going the way I was. I set myself a New Years resolution to improve my fitness. I wanted to be around to see my niece and nephew grow up.
What results have you achieved since being a member of Jetts?
Since joining Jetts in January 2014, I have lost 56kg and over 170cm in measurements. I feel like a completely new person and I’m currently the fittest I have ever been. I’m well on my way to losing my goal of 70kgs. When I first started I never even thought I’d lose 15kg let alone 56kg. My blood pressure is now normal and I no longer have diabetes. I have a ton of energy and I can keep up with my niece and nephew now!
Why Jetts? What do you love about your local Jetts Gym?
I joined Jetts Morphett Vale in January 2014 and it was the best decision of my life. The club manager Jess is an absolute champ! She made me feel welcome from the moment I walked through the door. The gym has a great atmosphere and the team members are always willing to help. All of the members make you feel welcome and I feel like I’m catching up with old friends when I go to they gym. I think this is the thing that helped me come back every time. I also love the fact that Jetts is a 24/7 gym and I have the freedom to workout when I like.
Do you remember your first training session?
Yes! My first session was with a personal trainer and he pushed me hard. At the time I thought to myself, “What am I doing? Why am I doing this to myself?”. I persevered and pushed through the session. I haven’t looked back since.
What’s your training schedule like?
I hit the gym 6 days a week and have Sunday as my rest day.
Mon-Wed-Friday: Chest, Shoulders, Legs Tue-Thurs-Sat: Back, Biceps, Triceps
What keeps you motivated on the days you don’t feel like getting out of bed?
The encouragement from my family and friends really motivates me. It helps to know that others are seeing the results I’m getting.
What is the number one lesson you’ve learnt about health and fitness?
The number one lesson I’ve learnt is you have to want to make change. Unless you’re willing and ready to do it, it won’t happen. You have to want it for yourself.
