How to Host a Healthy Dinner Party
Catching up with friends over dinner is a great way to socialise. However, it can be easy to fall into the trap of eating heavy foods and indulging in unhealthy desserts. But it doesn’t have to be this way! You can still have a great meal with your friends without the high calorie count. For inspiration and ideas, read our top tips for hosting a healthy dinner party below.
This is where a lot of people go wrong. It’s easy to forget how unhealthy that big gllass of red or can of fizzy can be. While water is the healthiest alternative, it can also get a bit boring. Jazz it up with some lemon wedges, or for something more exciting, keep it nutritious and healthy by having a fresh fruit drink instead, like strawberry and apple juice. Not only is it delicious, but it also adds a tropical, party vibe.
Your entrée should be small enough to keep your friends wanting more, but large enough to satisfy them until dinner. While finger food is easy and cheap, it is often filled with oils, salt and fats. Some healthier alternatives are grilled prawns, sweet potato chips and vegetable kebabs. Hit up the barbecue and make it a social affair!
You want your dinner to impress. The star of the show, the main meal should be something everyone can enjoy that gets mouths watering and encourages conversation. One great option is to make your own wraps. Prepare vegetables, cook up some meat and put sauces and pita bread out and let everyone prepare their own meal. Or, as another option, if you want to make something yourself, a green curry will warm bellies and impress taste buds!
Many people make the mistake of thinking desserts can only be unhealthy to be good – but this isn’t true! There are plenty of healthier desserts to choose from, such as avocado chocolate mousse, coconut or fruit semifreddo or a twist on the lassi, the mango fool.
To finish, simply enjoy the company of your friends as you let all the delicious – yet healthy – food settle!
